Explore Bama Beach in Banyuwangi, East Java

The name Banyuwangi has also become increasingly popular through the presence of the Trans Java Toll Road which accelerates vehicle access to the eastern part of Java. Banyuwangi International Airport, which was designed by architect Andra Matin and won one of the prestigious architectural awards Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2022, further boosted the name of Banyuwangi.

More than just a port from Java to Bali, Banyuwangi also holds a variety of amazing tourist destinations. In fact, in an area that may not be too large when compared to other districts, Banyuwangi offers access to a variety of tourist destinations that are fairly complete. From mountains to oceans, from forests to savannas, everything can be found or accessed from Banyuwangi.

One place worth visiting is Bama Beach, which is located within the Baluran National Park area. This beach offers freshness at the end of the savanna. The beauty of Bama Beach lies in its clean white sand and clear seawater. The beach is also surrounded by mangrove forests that give a natural impression and add to the beauty of the beach panorama.

Visiting Bama Beach

To reach Bama Beach, visitors must pass through the protected conservation area of Baluran National Park. This unique location also makes Bama Beach less crowded by tourists and still maintains its cleanliness and beauty. Baluran National Park itself is reached in about 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Banyuwangi.

If you come from the direction of Situbondo, East Java, then you have to travel about 74 kilometers in 1.5 - 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

As it is within the Baluran National Park, visitors do not need to pay an additional entrance ticket to enter the beach area. Upon arrival, several stalls selling snacks and of course, young coconut water, are welcoming.

Don't be surprised if a herd of long-tailed macaques also greet you, as this beach is their natural habitat. According to the owners of the stalls on the beach, these monkeys sometimes fight with each other or take visitors' food or belongings. So, be careful with your belongings.

Not to worry the beautiful expanse of white sand will divert attention (and fears) to the pleasant and relaxing scenery. Visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming and snorkeling, soaking up the sun, or strolling along the beautiful beach.

Because of its preserved nature, the marine life in the waters around the beach is also still very rich and diverse. Therefore, swimming or snorkeling are mandatory activities when coming to this beach. Snorkeling equipment can be rented at the beach area.

There is also a passenger boat on the beach that can be boarded to go out to sea and enjoy the view of the coast. From the middle of the sea, Baluran Mountain can be seen in the distance, and the mangrove forest area on the left and right sides fills most of the Bama Beach area.

After returning to the beach, visitors can choose to enjoy snacks such as fried bananas while watching the sunset, or explore the mangrove forest area (there is a mangrove trail that can be passed). At the end of the mangrove trail is a gazebo. Imagine sitting here as you gaze out at the blue ocean under a twilight sky, pampered by the gentle afternoon breeze. When going to enjoy the sunset, be sure to report to the local officials first as the Baluran National Park area closes at 16:00.

The beach area also has adequate facilities to support a pleasant tourist experience, such as parking lots, toilets, rinse rooms, stalls, and lodging. Don't forget to bring some equipment for a picnic or relaxing on the beach when visiting. A change of clothes, towels, sunglasses, sunscreen, and of course a camera to capture the moment, are some of the things that should not be left behind.

Just like when going on a beach vacation, the best time to visit Bama Beach is during the dry season. The sunny weather and calm seawater will give you more freedom to maximize your Bama Beach experience. So, don't forget to include Bama Beach as the next destination on your Banyuwangi travel adventure, and enjoy the alluring natural beauty there.
